Hello,

I'm Emily Lee

Headshot of me!
I'm a recent graduate of the Masters of Design program at UC Berkeley. Driven by purpose, empathy, and curiosity, I work to empower others to become storytellers of their unique experiences to co-design futures that speak to our diverse realities.

Who am I?

It's the question we're asked the day we are born and probably still grapple to answer to our graves. Well at least for me, it's always been a complicated answer.

A little about me

I'll do my best to give you a quick summary below. Journey through each series to learn a little more about me!
Story Collector
I love listening to people. From being the "therapist friend" to the person who attends every workshop to hear others' journeys, I find so much beauty and admiration in the trust others have in sharing their unique lived experiences.
Storyteller
Stories are the foundation, a shared language between people of any background. I love using these to bridge divides and inspire communication, collaboration, and co-creation to design a world that we can all feel safe in and proud of being a part of.

(and yes, this was when I used to do Classical Chinese dance! The beginning of where I was taught to express stories through different mediums)
Lifelong Student
Whether it's reading, listening to podcasts/speeches, tinkering, or exploring museums, I am a huge fanatic of always learning through different mediums. It's a riveting paradox to recognize and accept that the more I learn, the less I realize I know.
Empath
To be vulnerable takes courage. I strive to build trust and create a safe space for others to engage in self-discovery. By ceding control and immersing myself in the experiences of others, I hope to broaden my worldview and foster shared understandings

My North Star

Throughout a windy and messy journey, I have finally discovered what will always remain my North Star: To create clarity, connection, and compassion in complex systems—so that people feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow.

I’m drawn to human-computer interaction not just for how we design interfaces, but for how those technologies shape—and are shaped by—the systems they live in. As we enter an era of ubiquitous computing, my focus is on designing experiences that empower people by considering both the micro-interactions and the broader societal contexts they operate within.

A little about me

As it is their lived experience, I hope to empower stakeholders to become their own storytellers by co-creating solutions that restore agency. Empathy and emulation are not enough. Inclusivity is a necessity in today’s world.

With my interdisciplinary background in cognitive science, design, and research, I am interested in exploring the spaces of product strategy and design, service design, UX research, and product management to help translate user insights into compassionate experiences.

If you're navigating complex ecosystems and looking for someone who can help bridge insights, systems, and storytelling—I’d love to connect!
